Yoga 4 Mums & Babies

Yoga 4 Mums & Babies

Spend some quality time with your little one working on your physical and mental fitness.

Spend a relaxing hour in a perfectly safe environment where the needs of your baby will always take priority – take part in a class that will benefit the two (or three!) of you.

The course runs over 5-7 weeks (late morning) and includes Baby Yoga and Postnatal Yoga.

Within the hour-long class, Postnatal Yoga for the mum and Baby Yoga are alternated and we aim to get a relaxation session in as well. The Baby Yoga consists of lots of songs & physical activity for the baby.

All the movements can be done at home too, and are a great repertoire between the often challenging hours of 16:00 – 18:00 of the day. Depending on venue, the mums tend to go for a drink/lunch afterwards.

Testimonials from students

“Renate’s Mum & Baby yoga classes are an island of calm in my otherwise busy week. At a time when all my energy is pouring into motherhood, Renate helped me find time to nurture and re-energise myself. Often Renate will entertain and play with the babies during the relaxation at the end of the class, giving me a blissful few moments of uninterrupted relaxation that made the world of difference to my day! Of course it’s a lovely chance to stretch and gently start getting back into shape too. My son loves the songs & stretches too! We started when my bub was just 3 months, now 8 months on we have graduated to the Mum’s & Tot’s class and wouldn’t miss it! A big thank you Renate!!”

“I look forward to Renate’s mum and baby yoga class every week. It’s an oasis of calm and positivity focusing on what you need as a new mum as well as your baby’s development. I love being able to relax and build my strength through yoga, whilst still spending a hour of quality time with my daughter free from phones, TV and to do lists.”

– Sarah & Ronnie

“I’ve found Renate’s mums’ and babies’ yoga classes are a great way to start a bit of gentle exercise and to carve out some time, amongst the chaos of having older kids, to spend time with my youngest! Everyone is in the same boat, there’s a relaxed and social atmosphere and a nice way to meet other mums. Thanks Renate for this lovely opportunity.”

Frequently asked questions

What should I wear to the yoga class?
It is best to wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes for the baby and yourself – nothing that restricts your movement or your breathing.

Yoga is practiced in bare feet.

You might like to bring socks and jumper/cardigan for extra warmth during the relaxation.

What do I need to bring for baby?
Please bring a small blanket and favourite toy(s) of the week.  You’ll also need to bring all the other essentials, such as muslins, baby food, nappies, etc.
Do I need to have my own yoga mat?
If you have your own mat and you’d prefer to use it then you are welcome to do so.   Proper yoga mats are much better than the general aerobic type that are liable to slip.

Mats are available to borrow and to buy at class.

For the relaxation you might find a small pillow useful.

Should I eat before coming to class?
Wherever possible please try not to eat a large meal for a few hours before you come to class – it is not terribly comfortable to have a full stomach while practicing.

Please bring water if you need it.

Do I need any previous yoga experience?
Yoga is not competitive!

It does not matter if you haven’t practiced before – everybody has his or her individual strengths and weaknesses to work with.

You will notice how your strength and flexibility increases after just a few sessions.

It is very important to listen to your body to only do what you feel you are capable of, and make sure to rest if you feel you need to.

What if my baby is crying or needs feeding?
It is a very relaxed class, where I want everyone to feel comfortable, safe and relaxed.

That means that the little ones are in “charge”, i.e. if they need feeding, sleeping, a new nappy or a walk around the room, then that has priority.

Yoga etiquette

Arrive at least 10 minutes before the class starts

Allow additional time if it is your first class

Turn off all electronic devices

This means anything that rings, dings or buzzes

Advise instructor of any injuries or health issues

If you and/or your baby have any injuries/medical conditions please make sure that I know before class and include relevant details on the sign-in sheet in the first class of the course.

Avoid eating 1 hour before class

A heavy meal can make you feel uncomfortable
